Commissioned by the Queer Theory Library, The Intricate Ritual is a performance piece created and performed by Homosuperiorr as a response to several texts on queer time as well as sex between straight men. Homosuperiorr and their assistants use homosocial scripts and props such as working out, drinking beer, and wrestling to explore the liminal spaces of sexuality — delving into encounters that don’t count as ‘gay’ or ‘sex', or cannot be ‘remembered.’ These moments exist in private, in altered states of mind and through ritual bonding, allowing the practicioners to disappear from the forward momentum of ‘straight’ time and explore the eternal cycle of queer time.
